A United Way Success By 6 review panel recently approved six one-time grants totaling $11,000 to agencies and programs addressing parent education in local communities.
The funding was made available through a grant from the United Way of America and Bank of America Foundation, which is administered by the Area Wide United Way.
Last year, the local Success By 6 initiative received a parent education training grant from United Way of America and Bank of America Foundation.
With the funding, Success By 6 and Child Care Resource and Referral co-sponsored a brain research conference featuring international speaker Dr. Pam Schiller.
This year, Success By 6 also received a grant from the United Way of America and Bank of America Foundation. The one-time grants supporting parent education services was one component of the 2001 grant. Success By 6 and Child Care Resource and Referral will again co-sponsor a conference for parents and professionals on Oct. 6. The conference will focus on how to positively discipline children.
Applications were available on May 1 and reviewed by a panel of local early childhood professionals and local business leaders in July. Conditions of funding include providing a plan for anticipated outcomes and how this will be measured. Follow-up reports will be required in November and February.
Here is a list of funded agencies and programs:
* American Red Cross-Infant and Child CPR, $1,365;
