The United Way of Southeast Missouri and the Volunteer Intergenerational Center, VIC, will announce April as community volunteer month at a news conference set for today.
The announcement is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club at 232 Broadway.
During April, the United Way and VIC will emphasize volunteerism in the local community by promoting volunteer opportunities and recognizing outstanding volunteer efforts.
Upcoming events include the United Way's 17th annual Volunteer Recognition Awards luncheon and the promotion of Youth United Way at local high schools.
Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City mayors will sign a proclamation declaring April as community volunteer month, discuss the importance of volunteerism in their communities and volunteer at the club.
