The Area Wide United Way hit the halfway mark for the 1997 fund-raising campaign with contributions tallied at $274,775.
The campaign goal is $550,000.
Significant increases from employee groups have contributed to the success of the early portion of the campaign, including employees from the city of Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County, Drury companies, JCPenney, Schnucks, Southwestern Bell, Union Electric, DANA and Procter and Gamble.
Campaign drives are currently running at Southeast Missouri State University, NationsBank, Mercantile Bank, Cape Girardeau and Jackson school districts, Southeast Missouri Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center, among others.
