The Area Wide United Way has been awarded $22,997 in federal funds for emergency food and shelter programs by the Emergency Food and Shelter National Based Program.
Under terms of the federal grant, agencies selected to receive profits must be non-profit, have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and\or shelter program,s and if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.
Local agencies, meeting the above criteria and providing the services in Cape Girardeau County, may apply for funding no later than Tuesday.
