Leslie Jones was observed digging and removing the artifacts from an archaeological site in January 2007. Later that same month, police and numerous wildlife and natural resource officials seized the artifacts from Jones' residence during the execution of a search warrant. The artifacts included pottery, clay figures, tools, and more than 200 pieces of human bone.

Jones must also perform 500 hours of community service and pay more than $150,000 to the Cypress Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
