ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The science complex at the University of Missouri-St. Louis was evacuated Monday because of a chemical leak.

A custodian was overcome by fumes on the first floor of Benton Hall just before 8 a.m., according to stltoday.com, the Web site for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Officials said the gas was coming from a chemical storage closet near the chemistry labs.

Police and firefighters cleared out the small number of faculty and students in the building, as the university is on holiday break.

No injuries were reported.

Emergency workers with the St. Louis County Hazmat team found a ruptured container of Ether in the storage closet. The chemical was contained. A private contractor will clean the spill.
