POPLAR BLUFF -- A 30-year-old woman remained in serious condition Sunday after her van was struck by a train Saturday night, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Deborah Hanner of Corning, Ark. was driving about 15 miles south of Poplar Bluff on County Road 338 when the accident occurred about 8:15 p.m., according to Trooper Rhonda Shanika. As Hanner was driving across the railroad tracks, she was struck by a northbound Union Pacific engine driven by Danny Scott, 50, of Maumelle, Ark.
Hanner was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where she remains in serious condition.
No charges have been filed, Shanika said, and the accident remains under investigation.
In an unrelated accident, an 18-year-old woman was seriously injured when a vehicle she was riding in ran off the road in Dunklin county.
Bethany Hunter of Kennett was riding with Sharlena Daily, 26, on Route NN about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday when their northbound car ran off the east side of the roadway and overturned, according to Trooper J. Laramore.
Daily, also of Kennett, was not injured. Hunter was taken by car to Twin Rivers Hospital in Poplar Bluff, and then flown to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., where she remains in serious condition.
