Two female students at Southeast Missouri State University reported being raped at a Cape Girardeau apartment during the weekend.
The women, aged 19 and 20, first contacted the campus Department of Public Safety, but because attacks are alleged to have happened off campus the matter was referred to the city police department, said patrolman Jason Selzer.
The women met up with one of the two suspected attackers late Friday night in front of their dorm and agreed to go to his apartment, apparently knowing him as an acquaintance, Selzer said.
At some point after they got to the apartment, located on the southwest side of the city, the women were separated into different rooms and were raped, they told police. They did not report being beaten, drugged or being kept against their will by their attackers after being sexually assaulted.
Cape Girardeau police first received notice of the complaint on Sunday afternoon.
The two men are about the same age as the alleged victims, Selzer said. But their names have not been released and no charges have been filed.
The incident is under investigation by the detective division.
