The patrol spokesman said a pickup truck driven westbound by Parker on Cape Girardeau County Road 214 failed to make a curve, ran off the road and struck the tree. Neither the driver nor passenger had on seat belts, he said.

The accident occurred at 9:30 p.m. two miles east of Dutchtown, he said. The pickup truck was damaged extensively, he said.

Also Saturday, Jackson resident George McNeely, 72, suffered a fatal heart attack while driving a 1986 Ford pickup truck with a trailer east on Route A, 3 miles west of Dutchtown, the patrol reported.
