SIKESTON -- Two teenagers were injured in a traffic accident Friday on Highway 61, five miles north of Sikeston.

Injured were Jami Heavener, 15, of Sikeston, driver of one of the vehicles, and passenger Michael Laminack, 18, of Morley, said the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The patrol said Heavener was driving northbound when she came upon a line of traffic in her lane. She drove off the side of the road then came back onto the road and hit a car driven by Margaret Carey, 29, of Morley. Heavener then drove off the side of the road again. Her car overturned and she was ejected from the vehicle. She wasn't wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Heavener received serious injuries in the accident and was air lifted to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Laminack also received serious injuries and was transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
