Two Cape Girardeau residents have been selected to serve as interns at the White House this fall.
Teresa Wildman and Kendra Foster will begin their internships Sept. 6. Their specific assignments will not be made until shortly before their arrival in Washington.
For Wildman, working with Washington politics won't be a new experience. She has served internships with former Sen. John Danforth and U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson.
Wildman thinks her experience in Washington will keep her focused during her time at the White House.
"It will definitely help to be comfortable with the city already," she said. "I won't get caught up in the grandeur of it all; I'll be able to settle in and get right to work."
Although she's been there before, Wildman says she's thrilled to return to Washington. "The White House is kind of mythical," she said. "I'll get to be where the action is. I'm still young enough to believe that good things can happen there."
Wildman graduated magna cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University in May with a bachelor's degree in political science.
Foster, a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, is also excited about working in Washington.
"I'm looking forward to serving my country," she said. "I hope it leads to other things."
Foster plans to attend law school after she graduates from Southeast next year.
