Two Southeast Missouri residents killed in weekend accidents

Several automobile accidents in the area over the weekend resulted in two fatalities and several minor and moderate injuries.

A Marston, Mo., man was killed Friday when his motorcycle ran off the road. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Brian K. Bivens, 30, was traveling south on Route D, three-tenths of a mile north of County Road 524 in Pemiscot County, when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned into a pond and ejected him.

His body was taken by the Pemiscot County Coroner to the morgue after he was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner James Brimhall.

Also involved in a fatal accident over the weekend was Karen J. Williams, 53, of Sikeston, Mo.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that around 2:20 p.m. Sunday she was riding on a westbound motorcycle driven by Stanley R. Abernathy, 56, also of Sikeston, on Highway 34, 10 miles east of Silva in Wayne County. The accident occurred when the motorcycle ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned, ejecting both occupants.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Allen Berner. Abernathy was transported by helicopter to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Two New Madrid residents were injured in a Sunday afternoon accident. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. on U.S. 61, 1.3 miles north of Interstate 55 in New Madrid, as the southbound vehicle driven by Tiffany Langley, 17, of New Madrid, ran off the road and overturned.

Langley and her passenger, Lindsey B. Keith, an infant, sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

A Sunday morning accident resulted in minor injuries for two Scott County residents. The accident occurred around 10:38 a.m. on County Road 510, three miles north of Bloomfield, as a westbound vehicle driven by Brian J. Surface, 25, of Sikeston, slid off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree, according to the Patrol.

Surface and his passenger, Tammie L. Senciboy, 24, of Chaffee, were transported by ambulance to Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, where they were treated for minor injuries.

A Scott City resident was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Kelso, Mo., on Saturday. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 7:05 p.m. on U.S. 61, one mile south of Kelso. A northbound vehicle driven by Austen D. Robinson, 19, of Scott City struck rear of the northbound vehicle driven by Virginia E. Dunn, 53, of Kelso.

Robinson's passenger, Brett A. Howell, 26, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

And early Sunday morning, an accident in Dunklin County resulted in injuries for two Dexter, Mo., residents.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred around 3:50 a.m. on County Road 239, two miles west of Malden, Mo., A northbound vehicle driven by James W. Bates, 46, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Bates sustained moderate injuries. His passenger, Teresa A. Buchanan, 41, of Dexter, received minor injuries. Both were transported by private conveyance to Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
