NEW MADRID, Mo. — An early Sunday morning accident left two Sikeston, Mo., residents dead and another seriously injured, the Sikeston Standard-Democrat reported. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 61, one-quarter of a mile north of New Madrid. A southbound vehicle driven by Roy Bonner, 35, of Sikeston, crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle, driven by Tommie Spencer, 47, also of Sikeston. Bonner was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner Jimmy McSpadden. Spencer and his passenger, Hattie Gibbs, 67, of Sikeston, were transported by air ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where Gibbs was pronounced dead and Spencer was treated for serious injuries.
