The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri reported two dogs stolen from its facility Friday night.
The not-for-profit organization closes at 5 p.m. Friday. When employees reopened at 8 a.m. Saturday, they discovered two pit bulls had been taken.
One is a 7-year-old male chocolate pit bull terrier named Hazard and the other is a 7-month-old female blue American Staffordshire terrier named Silvey.
Staff from the Humane Society said they are concerned about the dogs, especially considering their breeds, which often are used in dogfighting.
The cage doors were cut with a chain cutter, an employee said, and there was no evidence to show the dogs were injured.
Police visited Saturday morning and are investigating, but the Humane Society has no leads at this time.
The organization is offering a $500 reward for the safe return of the dogs or information that directly correlates with their return.
For more information or tips, call the Humane Society at 334-5837.
