PERRYVILLE -- Two juniors at St. Vincent's Catholic High School in Perryville were selected for the "I Dare You" leadership award.
Shannon Zoellner and Chad Ernst were chosen for the honor.
The award was first offered in 1941 by William H. Danforth, one of the founders of the American Youth Foundation. Danforth, a Charleston native who settled in St. Louis, also founded the Ralston-Purina empire. His grandson is Missouri Sen. John Danforth.
Those receiving the award also receive a copy of Danforth's book "I Dare You." In addition, students have the opportunity to attend an 11-day national leadership conference next summer.
Both Zoellner and Ernst also received scholarships covering the registration fees and room and board. A limited number of scholarships were awarded.
Ernst is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ernst of Perryville. Zoellner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Zoellner of Perryville.
