Two passengers were killed in a one-car crash shortly after midnight Tuesday morning on the 2000 block of Big Bend Road.
Carl Scott Ford, 40, of Cape Girardeau, and Tracie D. Ford, 28, of Olive Branch, Ill., were both killed in the crash. Officials said the two were not related.
The vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am, was being driven northbound when it crossed the center line and left the roadway.
"It went down a ditch, hit an embankment, went airborne, hit a tree, grazed a telephone pole wire, hit the ground, stuck a culvert and then came to rest," said Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Rick Schmidt. "So there were several points of impact."
The driver, Scott L. Bragg, 33, of Cape Girardeau, and passenger Carla J. McNelly, 30, of Thebes, Ill., were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital for the moderate, but not life-threatening, injuries they sustained in the crash, Schmidt said.
Police did not release further details about how the crash may have occurred but are still investigating.
Carl Scott Ford worked for Quade's Masonry.
