SCOTT CITY -- Two more candidates have filed for seats on the Scott City Council.

Filing this week were George Moit, 65, who is seeking a two-year term in Ward 2, and Kenny R. Holder, 24, who is seeking a one-year, unexpired term in Ward 2.

Moit, a Scott City resident for nine years, said he's been attending council meetings and isn't satisfied with what he sees. He said instead of taking action, council members too often put motions on hold.

"That doesn't get anything done," Moit said. "I think I could get things done."

Moit, who is retired, said he would like to seek out opinions of people in his ward about what they see as the most pressing issues in the town. Moit was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years. He is married and has five grown children and five grandchildren.

Moit filed for the council seat currently held by John Rogers. Rogers last week filed for a second term.

Holder is a native of Scott City. He worked for four years as a lifeguard at the Scott City Pool and is a licensed official in high school sports. He is currently looked for employment.

Holder said he has also attended recent council meetings. He said he doesn't feel the opinions of the people of Scott City are well represented. He said that fact is reflected in a low voter turnout for recent elections.

"There is a lot of talk and not much action," Holder said referring to recent council actions. "I'd like to get out and talk to people and find out what their views are."

Holder said some of the city's resources aren't being tapped. He said more involvement by residents in city matters is needed.

"I'd also like to see the youth take a more active role" in city government, he said.

The one-year unexpired term was held by former Councilman Jim Cauble, who resigned last month. Edith Davidson was appointed to fill Cauble's position and has since filed for the seat.

Filing last week for a second term was Ward 3 Councilman Ron Oller. LaDonna Phelps, a Scott City teacher, filed for a Ward 1 seat currently held by Jim McClintock. McClintock has not yet filed for re-election.
