BENTON, Mo. -- Two Southeast Missouri men have been charged in connection with a recent burglary at a Benton apartment building, the Scott County Sheriff's Department said in a news release Tuesday.
Jacob Patrick, 19, of Cape Girardeau, and Tyler Hyde, 19, of Sikeston, Mo., are each charged with second-degree burglary, felony stealing and second-degree property damage.
Sheriff Rick Walter said his deputies were alerted that Patrick had been arrested on a weapon-related charged in Cape Girardeau. Patrick said he had taken the weapon from a family member living in Benton, Walter wrote in the release.
Deputies responded to the family member's apartment and found a window broken out. The person was not home. They were able to eventually verify with officers there were items missing from their apartment.
Walter said Hyde, who allegedly participated in the crime, was arrested later.
Most of the stolen property has been recovered, according to Walter. Both men are still in custody at the Scott County Jail.
