SCOTT CITY -- Two members of the Police Personnel Board in Scott City have resigned.

The resignations of Grover St. Clair, the former chairman of the board, and David E. "Gene" Thompson were accepted by the Scott City Council Monday.

Neither of them said in letters to the council why they were resigning, but asked the council to accept their resignations.

Mayor Shirley Young said St. Clair has served on the board for eight years. She said St. Clair told city officials he did not wish to serve more than two terms.

Thompson was re-appointed to the board early this year. Thompson was unavailable for comment Tuesday, and Young said she was not sure why he resigned.

The five-member board monitors the police department and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning hiring and firing of police department employees. They also act as a judicial board when there is a complaint filed against the department.

Its members are appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council. Young said Tuesday she plans to begin looking for two new volunteers to serve on the board.

The board meets once a month. Its members are unpaid.
