JONESBORO, Ill. -- Two men were injured Wednesday afternoon when their vehicles collided on Illinois Route 127.

Jerry Lynn Cates, 48, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. was taken to Union County Hospital with major injuries. An employee at the hospital's emergency room said Cates was discharged Wednesday afternoon.

Todd M. Bennett, 24, of Tamms suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Union County Hospital.

Bennett's vehicle was southbound in the northbound lane of the roadway. Cates, driving northbound, swerved to avoid Bennett's vehicle, but the two vehicles collided head-on, according to the Illinois State Police.

Bennett was issued a citation for improper lane usage. Cates was cited for failure to wear a seatbelt.

The accident occurred at 1:05 p.m. approximately three miles south of Jonesboro.
