Two Cape Girardeau women were transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital Thursday morning after a collision with a tractor-trailer rig on Highway 74.
The accident occurred at 8:33 a.m. at the traffic light at Highway 74 and South West End Boulevard.
Cape Girardeau Police Traffic Officer Sonny Kincade said a 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity driven by Marilynn C. Hart, 47, 1126 S. Benton, was traveling north on West End when it entered the intersection in front of the truck.
The 1989 International Conventional driven by Gerald L. Lamb, 62, of Tamms, Ill., was westbound on 74.
The collision spun the car around in the lane while the truck continued on. It glanced off a light pole then ran onto the shoulder of the road where it overturned, spilling its load of silica rock.
Kincade said both drivers told him they had a green light, but a witness who was stopped at the intersection southbound on West End said the light was red in that direction. Kincade said he still had interviews to conduct before determining who to cite in the accident.
Lamb was treated for an arm injury at the scene of the accident. Kincade said he refused further medical treatment. Hart and her sister, Lorraine Hart, 44, 1126 S. Benton, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were transported to Southeast Hospital. Kincade said Marilynn Hart appeared to have head injuries while Lorraine Hart had injuries to her side and arm.
Sally Owen, hospital spokeswoman, said at 3:40 p.m. that the Harts were still being evaluated in the emergency room.
