ULLIN, Ill. -- Two people were killed and three others injured in a vehicle accident yesterday in Southern Illinois. A second vehicle was also involved.
Mary L. Lyons, 46, of Chicago was traveling southbound on Interstate 57 at 9:35 a.m. when she lost control of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer she was driving. Lyons ran into the medium and overturned several times. The Blazer stopped partially in the interstate's northbound lanes.
In a second car, also southbound, traveling behind Lyons, was a 1997 Isuzu driven by Wendy May Carter, 30, also of Chicago. Carter, who was en route with Lyons, witnessed the accident and lost control of her vehicle and overturned in the medium. Carter received no major injuries. said the Illinois State Highway Patrol.
Dead are Lyons and a front-seat passenger, Melvin Parker Jr., 13. Passengers, Teresa Lyons, 26, and Meko Hotstream Sr., 29, were taken to the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau and were treated and released. Another passenger, Meko Hotstream Jr., 3, according to hospital representatives, is in stable but critical condition.
Passengers in the Isuzu, Candy Carter, 31, Monique Love, 16, Tonik Tillman, 4, Jaquez Lyons, 2, and Zaavon Carter, 5, also received no injuries.
