ANNA, Ill. -- Two Illinois residents died in a head-on collision one mile north of Anna, on New U.S. Route 51.
Luella Pryor, 71, of Ullin, Ill., and Pamela Richards, 37, of Anna, died of injuries in the crash, which occurred at 2:34 p.m. Richards was a passenger in a car driven by John Moreland, 59, of Cobden, Ill., who was also injured in the crash.
An Illinois State Police spokesman said Pryor was driving south on Route 51 when her car crossed the center line, struck a guard rail along the northbound lane, re-entered the northbound lane and struck Moreland's car.
Pryor was pronounced dead at the Union County Hospital in Anna. She was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
Moreland was transported to the Union County Hospital, but was later transferred to Southeast Missouri Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition late Tuesday. He was wearing a seat belt.
Richards was transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital, where she later died. She was also wearing a seat belt.
