JACKSON -- Jackson Dental opened here recently.

The business, situated on Highway 61 East, offers complete dental service six days a week, said Dr. Stan Williams, one of the dentists involved in the operation.

Williams, a Dexter native, and Dr. Benjamin Goodier of Jackson teamed up to open the office.

Williams is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Dental School. He worked in a dental office at Sikeston before opening the Jackson office.

Goodier, a graduate of Washington University Dental School at St. Louis, has had a dental practice at Marble Hill for 13 years. He will continue the operation there two days a week.

The Jackson office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Marble Hill office will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The new business is in a renovated house constructed of logs that were transported from Marble Hill years ago.

"The house was built in the late 1940s with logs from a church that was torn down in Bollinger County," said Williams. "The church was built about 175 years ago, and the logs are said to be the second oldest in the state of Missouri."

Other materials used in the building are also of historic nature.

"The stones for the chimney base are from the Randol farm near Jackson, and date back to 1835," said Williams. "The stones in the fireplace and living room are white sandstones from Poplar Bluff."

Williams said that during renovation the original walls and ceilings were kept intact.

"Room for the clinic was added to the back of the house," said Williams.

The new office employs seven people: two hygienists, three assistants and two receptionists.
