ST. LOUIS -- A teacher and her aide tied an 8-year-old special education student to a chair at a Jefferson County elementary school because he would not stop picking his nose, prosecutors said.

Authorities said the two employees of the Fox School District then taped the boy's mouth shut.

Teacher Kristyn Valleroy, 26, and aide David Singleton, 31, were charged with misdemeanor assault and tampering with evidence in the incident.

Each charge can bring up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Both have been suspended from their jobs at the elementary school in Imperial, Fox superintendent Jim Chellew said.

Authorities said the incident occurred Nov. 4 and was reported by the boy's parents that day.
