Two robberies that occurred around Broadway on Thursday involved assaults, the theft of money and a can of beer, police said.

The first took place about 5 p.m. as a woman was walking along Broadway, Cpl. Kevin Orr said. As she turned to walk down Louisiana Street, she noticed three young men following her. She described them as being between 15 and 17 years old. Two of the teenagers were black, and one was white, Orr said.

As she turned around to face them, one of them punched her in the eye and shoved her to the ground. The second robber asked her if she had any money, then went through her pockets, taking her cash, Orr said.

The second robbery happened about 9:45 p.m. A man told police that as he was coming out of Kidd's convenience store at 1325 Broadway, a male passenger of a maroon Mitsubishi Eclipse got out and approached him. The man suddenly struck the victim in the right side of the forehead with his fist and stole the 59 cent can of beer that the victim had purchased, Orr said. The robber then got back into the car with a male driver and the two left.

Only minor injuries were reported in the two robberies, Orr said.

Police are investigating both incidents.
