Two arrested in fatal shooting near University of Missouri campus

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Two men face second-degree murder charges in the shooting death of a 17-year-old in an incident that rattled residents of a nearby student apartment complex and ended when the suspects were pulled over near the University of Missouri campus.

Police identified the victim of Wednesday's shooting as Tedarrian C. Robinson. He died at University Hospital from a gunshot wound to the head.

The homicide -- the city's first this year -- was the result of "an ongoing dispute between two groups of people who knew each other," Capt. Zim Schwartze told the Columbia Missourian.

Police arrested Lorenzo Ladiner, 20, and Kristopher M. Prince, 17, on suspicion of second-degree murder late Wednesday night.

University police were called to the scene soon after the 2:50 p.m. CST shooting when an off-duty city officer pulled over a car on Providence Road near the university's nuclear research reactor and Memorial Stadium. The driver was rushing to take Robinson to the hospital, Schwartze said.

Witnesses told Columbia police that two cars with a total of seven people inside exchanged gunfire in the area of Grindstone Parkway and Bearfield Road, about two miles from the University of Missouri-Columbia campus in south Columbia. Robinson lived in a nearby apartment.

Four area public schools temporarily delayed afternoon dismissal and locked down for about 30 minutes.

Two days after the deadliest shooting in U.S. history at Virginia Tech, University of Missouri officials took the unusual step of issuing a news release pointing out that the shooting did not occur on campus.
