PATTON, Mo. -- Bollinger County authorities arrested two students on misdemeanor drug possession charges Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Meadow Heights school.

Arrested were Meadow Heights students Joshua Edward Karn, 17, and Savanna Skye Smith, 17, both on charges of possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana.

A Jackson police officer and canine, six members of the Bollinger County Sheriff's Department and school administrators conducted a search of the school and parking lot looking for drugs. Sheriff Darin Shell said the police dog found marijuana in two vehicles in the parking lot.

Meadow Heights superintendent Andrew Comstock declined to comment, citing student confidentiality.

Shell said the sheriff's department will continue to work with local schools.
