SIKESTON, Mo. -- Two men were in jail Friday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and crashing it into a house in Sikeston early Friday morning, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, about 4 a.m. Friday an officer patrolling the area near Smith Street in Sikeston saw a sport utility vehicle pull out erratically from a street and heading west. The vehicle then ran the red stop light by Food Giant on Main Street. The officer turned on his vehicle emergency lights and pursued the vehicle, which fled and turned by Rhodes 101 Convenience Store and onto Hunter Street. The vehicle turned onto another street with accelerated speed and traveled through a yard. The driver lost control of the vehicle and wrecked into a residence on Taylor Street.
The vehicle crashed into the brick wall of the garage and into the homeowner's parked van, causing extensive damage to the residence and the vehicles. The van was also pushed into a wall of the home.
Two young males were found hiding in the garage inside the homeowner's van.
Officers also learned the SUV was stolen out of New Madrid, Mo. One of the suspects received minor injuries and was treated in the emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
