The patrol spokesman said Peterson was driving a 1986 Ford north on Interstate 55, four miles west of Old Appleton, when the car skidded on the ice-covered bridge. The car skidded off the right side of the roadway and collided with the wrecker parked on the shoulder.

The accident occurred at 7:30 a.m.

In a separate accident, Linda Kight, 38, of Route 1, Advance was injured at 4 p.m. when her northbound vehicle, a 1989 Mazda, ran off the road and into a ditch while crossing railroad tracks on Route P one mile north of Randles, reported the patrol.

She was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital, where she was treated and released.
