Two people were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance in Scott County.
Scott County Sheriff's officers received a tip about drugs and drug paraphernalia at 6665 Route H in Benton, Missouri. Benjamin Karr, 37, of Oran, Missouri, and Aschlei N. Goetz, 33, of Benton were found sitting in parked vehicle on the property. Goetz's 5-month-old child was in the back seat.
Karr gave officers permission to search his vehicle, and deputies found a scale and metal spoon with a white substance on it in a makeup bag. A second bag contained a syringe with liquid inside. Karr had a syringe with a white substance in it.
According to a report from the Scott County sheriff, all items field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The meth amounted to 0.6 grams. Karr and Goetz were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
"When it's meth, any amount is considered a felony," Scott County Sheriff public information officer Dane Stausing said.
Stausing said officers also want to charge Karr and Goetz with endangering the welfare of a child. He said children being involved in this type of arrest is common.
Karr and Goetz are tentatively scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Stausing said they both were in the Scott County Jail on Friday. Karr's bond was set at $2,500, and Goetz's was set at $1,000.
