SIKESTON -- -- Two people were injured in accidents that occurred two minutes apart at the same place on Interstate 55 south of Sikeston early Saturday.
Both of the injured were taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center at Sikeston, where they were treated and released.
The accidents occurred three miles south of Sikeston.
Terresa Smith, 33, of Sikeston was southbound at 3:48 a.m. when her car ran off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and overturned on its top on I-55, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
The second accident occurred at 3:50 a.m. and involved two other southbound vehicles that were driven by Chicago residents whose occupants were traveling together.
A car driven by Vicente Alcaraz, 30, struck Smith's overturned car in the rear. A vehicle driven by Alfredo Alcaraz, 29, couldn't stop in time and struck the second car in the rear, the patrol said.
Smith and Beatriz Gallardo, 51, of Chicago, a passenger in the third vehicle, were injured in the accidents.
