Sverdrup Corporation, an engineering consulting firm hired by the city of Cape Girardeau, has started the final design engineering for trunk and lateral sewers to serve the Twin Lakes subdivision area annexed last year by the city.
The area was annexed in August 1993. City Engineer J. Kensey Russell is coordinating the project.
City survey crews began work in the area on March 15, said Curt Westrich, project engineer for Sverdrup. Initial surveying is slated to be completed in early May, with completion of the design engineering by Sept. 3.
City Planner Kent Bratton said the trunk and force-main system will extend west from the Wal-Mart area along Route K to a tributary that reaches Ramsey Branch. Ramsey Branch is referred to as Veteran's Branch since it is located near the Veterans Home area.
At that point, the trunk line will turn into the subdivision area.
With the adoption of the city's five-year capital improvements program in March, City Manager J. Ronald Fischer said that the final phase was complete.
"We are on-line and on-target in providing this key service to the area that was annexed last year," said Fischer. "The engineering for the extension of the city water service, which was an even more important element in the annexation, has already begun.
"We are doing this engineering in-house and plan to have it completed by September of 1994. Following that will be acquisition of the necessary easements and the letting of bids for actual construction."
