Sessions for students in Blanchard Elementary's Read to Succeed tutoring program have been postponed until students return to the regular elementary building sometime in February.

Blanchard classes are being held at Lynwood Baptist Church due to a fire in December that damaged the school.

Read to Succeed volunteer coordinator Bekki Cook said the sessions will be postponed because holding the program at the church could interfere with security of the church building and there is a lack of meeting space for tutors and students.

Volunteer tutors normally hold sessions Monday through Thursdays with Blanchard and Alma Schrader Elementary students. Sessions for Alma Schrader students at that school will continue as scheduled, Cook said, and programs at both schools are in need of volunteers. Volunteers that would normally tutor at Blanchard but have canceled sessions are welcome to volunteer at Alma Schrader in the meantime, Cook said. Potential new volunteers can contact the United Way of Southeast Missouri at 334-9634.
