Former Cape Girardeau Public School Superintendent Arthur Turner has accepted a new position as superintendent at Greensburg, Ind.
Turner officially begins his new post July 1.
"It's a very attractive situation," Turner said. "The school district is a good one and both the community and the schools are in good shape."
He said Greensburg is about 40 miles from his hometown of Franklin, Ind.
The school system has about 2,300 students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.
Turner said the community, located in south central Indiana, is very attractive and that was a selling point for his accepting the position.
"It's about 50 miles from Indianapolis and Cincinnati," he said.
Turner had served as superintendent in Cape Girardeau for the past 16 years.
The Cape Girardeau Board of Education voted not to renew his contract last year. It expires June 30. In March, the board relieved Turner of his daily duties with the district and named James Englehart, director of secondary education, interim superintendent.
Neyland Clark will take over as superintendent in Cape Girardeau July 1. Clark is from Shepherdsville, Ky.
