A late Tuesday night fire at Havco Wood Products, LLC, is the second silo fire at the company in two weeks.
Jill Braswell, Havco human resources manager and spokeswoman, said Tuesday's fire occurred at 11:45 p.m. and was less severe than the Oct. 26 blaze which halted production for two days. Prior to the October fire, Braswell said there had not been a blaze at the company since 2003, when a new fire suppression and detection system was installed.
She said it is still unclear what sparked the fire, but officials are investigating the company's boilers and silos to look for causes and ways to prevent future incidents. The silo stores sawdust created during production, which is used to fuel burners.
Production at Havco was halted Wednesday morning until the burnt sawdust is emptied from the silo. The first production and warehouse shifts did not run Wednesday, and Braswell said it is was uncertain if later shifts would be able to operate. Crews not working because of the fire are off without pay, Braswell said. She said crews will probably work Saturday to make up the lost hours.
No one was injured during the fire, and there was no significant property damage.
Havco manufactures wood flooring and other wood products.
