Emily A. Trueblood of Cape Girardeau recently received a $2,000 National Merit Scholarship.

Trueblood, a senior at Cape Central High School, is one of 14,000 students nationwide receiving the award. She is the only Southeast Missouri student to receive the award this year.

Trueblood was selected for the scholarship program based on academic and leadership recommendations. She has received the DAR good citizen award, Zonta Club Young Woman in Public Affairs award and the Principal's Leadership award.

Trueblood is senior class vice president, a member of the National Honor Society, varsity swim team, Renaissance, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and school orchestra. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Trueblood.

The National Merit Scholarship Competition is a non-profit corporation established in 1955. It operates without government funding and has awarded $752 million in scholarships during the last 40 years.
