WARRENTON, Mo. -- A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper shot and wounded a man Sunday, after the suspect threatened authorities with a rifle, authorities said.
Patrol Cpl. Al Nothum said the 36-year-old man lives with his parents in a Warren County home outside of Warrenton.
He said the man came home around 4 a.m. Sunday, which was his birthday, and got into a confrontation with his mother.
She was not injured. The woman fled and authorities were called to the scene.
After Warren County sheriff's deputies and two state troopers arrived, the suspect began riding around his yard with his 6-year-old son on an all-terrain vehicle, Nothum said.
Nothum said the man apparently was involved in a domestic dispute, would not give the child to authorities or his girlfriend, and repeatedly asked authorities if they planned to shoot him.
Nothum said the man set the child free, and raised his rifle toward officers, which is when the trooper fired twice. The suspect was hospitalized. His name and the trooper's name have not been released.
