Trial scheduled for man accused in stabbing

UNION, Mo. -- A three-day trial has been set for Ryan Harkey, the Jackson man accused of murder in a December stabbing outside of a Cape Girardeau bar. The case is scheduled to occur from Sept. 26 to 28 in Franklin County on a change of venue that was granted March 19. Harkey pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in February in the stabbing death of Jerry "Buddy" Conrad after what police describe as an early-morning altercation. Harkey's lawyer, Art Margulis, has said that the evidence against his client indicates Harkey acted in self-defense. According to the Franklin County circuit clerk's office, the case has been assigned to Judge Gael Wood.
