Trial date set for man accused of rape, sodomy

A man charged with raping and sodomizing a 9-year-old girl over two years goes to trial this spring, KZIM KSIM reported. Daniel McBrant, 30, was arrested Sept. 15 inside a garage at a residence on Old Cape Road after the girl's mother came to the police station to report the crime. According to a police statement, the victim did not report the abuse for fear McBrant would physically harm her and her mother. McBrant is charged with statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy. Judge Scott Thomsen will preside over his jury trial April 16 in Jackson.
