At the annual company picnic, Tri-Con associates departed from traditional fund-raising activities to sponsor a Sumo wrestling match to benefit flood victims.
Associates nominated wrestlers and showed their support with money. Over $1,400 was donated by the Cape Girardeau associates, and associates at Tennessee, Detroit and central Missouri facilities along with several Tri-Con vendors.
The wrestling matches were crowd pleasers as wrestlers belly-butted their way to victory or tipped over and thrashed around helplessly in the inflated Sumo costumes with top-knotted wigs.
Additional funds were raised in a raffle of associate and company donated items including a flood survival kit consisting of fins, sponge, and an inflatable tube.
Proceeds for those events went to assist Tri-Con flood victims.
Tri-Con associates also donated more than 50 pints of blood at an American Red Cross blood drive.
The company and associates donated $3,000 to the local Salvation Army. Plans are in the works for a bowl-a-thon in August to benefit flood relief efforts.
