The Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign has topped the $100,000 mark on the way toward its goal of $115,000.
Capt. Elmer Trapp of the Salvation Army said giving needs to remain steady through Christmas Eve to reach the goal. He said demand is up for services this year.
"There has been an increase in the number of people we will serve by about 1,000," said Trapp. "It is anticipated we will serve about 5,000 people during the holiday season."
He said about 25,000 people received assistance from the Salvation Army in 1993.
Individuals may mail contributions to Tree of Lights, Box 802, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701, or contribute at one of the kettles in Cape Girardeau or Jackson.
Toys were given to children on Tuesday. Food baskets will be distributed on Thursday.
Volunteers from the Salvation Army have also visited area nursing home and provided residents with Christmas gifts.
