The state has custody of unclaimed cash and property belonging to half a million Missourians.
Staff members from state Treasurer Bob Holden's office hope to find some of those Missourians at Riverfest in Cape Girardeau Friday and Saturday.
Staff members will be at Riverfest from 3-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday to check people's names on a portable computer that lists nearly 550,000 owners of unclaimed property.
"The state treasurer's office operates Missouri's largest lost and found," said Holden. "We're always trying new and innovative ways to make more Missourians aware of our unclaimed property division so we can return more abandoned property to its rightful owners."
Holden's office returned about $2.9 million to the rightful owners last year. During the same period, the state took custody of a record $15.1 million in unclaimed property.
