If Missouri voters approve a transportation tax increase Aug. 6, part of the money would be dedicated to other modes of transportation besides roads. The state Highways and Transportation Commission on Tuesday approved a list of projects that could be funded. It would be up to local groups to ultimately approve the projects and the legislature to appropriate money.PUBLIC TRANSIT
A 10 percent increase in public transit services statewide.
Funding for new public transit vehicles, equipment and facilities, including $8 million annually in St. Louis, $4 million in Kansas City and another $4 million for the rest of the state.
Full funding for the Missouri Elderly and Handicapped Transportation Assistance Program.AIRPORTS
A 25 percent increase in airports capable of handling business jets, including improvements at Lee's Summit, Kennett, St. Charles County, Lebanon, Springfield-Ozark and Washington.
Improve 25 airfield lighting and navigational systems, including at Kirksville, New Madrid, Malden and St. Joseph.
Improve 20 runways, including at Willow Springs, Higginsville, Van Buren, Fulton, Nevada, Versailles, Moberly, St. Clair, Sedalia, Lamar, Chillicothe, Cuba and Harrisonville.
Construct 15 taxiways, including at Mexico, Jefferson City, Eldon, Farmington, Lebanon, Sullivan, Houston and Trenton.
Expand 10 airport parking aprons, including at the Spirit of St. Louis, West Plains, Clinton, Farmington and Waynesville.
Expand airport land acquisition programs.
Reduce airport obstructions and expand safety buffers.
Complete a statewide aviation weather system.PASSENGER TRAINS
Maintain two round trips daily between St. Louis and Kansas City.
Improve passenger rail stations.
Evaluate Missouri's participation in the high-speed Midwest Regional Rail Initiative.RIVER PORTS
Maintain Dorena-Hickman and New Bourbon ferry operations.
Assist port authorities with administrative expenses until completion of their building plans.
Construct or repair docks at the ports of Mississippi County, Kansas City, St. Louis, New Bourbon, New Madrid and Pemiscot County.
Realign or extend rail lines at the ports of Pemiscot County, Kansas City, New Madrid, St. Joseph and Southeast Missouri.
Widen and deepen harbors at New Bourbon.
Acquire or fill waterfront at the ports of Southeast Missouri, Pemiscot County and St. Joseph.
Improve or construct terminal facilities at nine ports.
Improve utilities at the ports of New Madrid, St. Joseph, Mississippi, New Bourbon and Pemiscot County.
Increase storage capacity at the ports of Marion County, St. Joseph, Kansas City, New Madrid, New Bourbon and Howard-Cooper County.
