The Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority named Tom Mogelnicki of Jackson as interim director during a closed meeting last week, board member Donna Oldham said.
The authority board chose Mogelnicki as a temporary replacement for director Jeff Brune, who has resigned to take a job in a financial management firm. Brune, who has been director of the authority for five years, will be leaving his job on April 15.
The board discussed other options for the temporary replacement, Oldham said Monday, including whether to elevate another top manager of the authority to the post.
Tom's name kept coming up and that is who we ended up going with, Oldham said.
Mogelnicki will have the job for two to six months while the authority board seeks a permanent replacement for Brune, Oldham said.
Mogelnicki has a background in construction, Oldham said. He was an applicant for the job the last time it came open, when Brune was selected, she said.
The transit authority operates a 24-hour, on-demand passenger service throughout Cape Girardeau County as well as a six-day a week bus route inside Cape Girardeau city limits. Authority board chairman Doug Richards was not available for comment Monday, but he has said the authority will conduct an extensive search in an attempt to find someone with a transit background to direct the authority's operations.
Oldham said Mogelnicki began work Monday morning.
A message seeking comment from Brune and Mogelnicki was not returned immediately.
