Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority's takeover date for taxi service from Kelley Transportation is at hand.
At a board meeting Friday morning, staff reported that they believe they are ready. Over the next 10 days, the transit authority will work on final preparations for a fixed route system.
"We're behind the 8-ball on a whole lot of stuff," board chairman Doug Richards said. "But this thing is going to be fine."
The taxi takeover will occur at 11:45 p.m. Friday. Bus service begins July 10 with daily service from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Prior to July 10, riders will be able to obtain service during bus hours for the cost of the city taxi coupons, which is $2 for the general public and $1 for senior citizens and the disabled.
