Three instructors with Southeast Missouri Hospital's Fitness and Wellness Center have received aerobic certification through the American Council on Exercise.
Marta Retherford, Marsha Holloway and Cindy Patrick successfully completed the test for ACE aerobic certification, the recognized standard in the fitness industry.
ACE, with 18,000 members in 45 countries, is a professional organization for aerobics instructors, personal trainers, and studio and club owners.
Southeast's Fitness and Wellness Center programs include nutrition education, fitness and exercise classes for all ages and fitness levels; lifestyle modification programs and corporate programs that help employees learn in the workplace about exercise and nutrition, weight control, smoking and stress.

Diane Walker Holzum, Southeast Missouri Hospital's clinical nurse specialist for critical care, is author of an article published recently in a professional journal.
The article written by Holzum for the October 1991 issue of "The Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing," deals with interventions to support a failing right ventricle.
A graduate of the Burge School of Nursing in Springfield, Holzum received her bachelor-of-science nursing degree at Southwest Missouri State University and her master-of-science nursing degree at the University of Texas in Austin.
In addition to her duties at Southeast, Holzum, a trauma nurse specialist, serves on the affiliate faculty at Southeast Missouri State University.

Shirl D. Coomer recently completed the Federal Aviation Administration's nine-week air-traffic-controller basic course at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City.
Coomer is the daughter of Gus and Shirley Coomer of Cape Girardeau.
Before going to the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City, Coomer passed written and physical examinations under civil service. Completion of the screening program gives Coomer a civil service rating of GS-9.
Upon reporting for duty in FAA's Western Pacific region, Coomer will work toward the air-traffic-control journeyman classification.

JACKSON Edwin A. Welker, county supervisor with the Farmers Home Administration, and Kevin J. Essner, assistant county supervisor, recently completed a training course sponsored by the FmHA.
The week-long course, entitled "Credit and Financial Analysis," was held in St. Louis and is designed to provide in-depth training in farm financial-analysis techniques.
Welker and Essner make and service a variety of farm loans provided by the FmHA in Cape Girardeau, Perry, and Ste. Genevieve counties.

Bill Brinkopf; his wife, Ramona Brinkopf; son, Bill Brinkopf Jr.; and Della Hale recently attended The Pet Industry Trade Show at O'Hara Exposition Center in Chicago.
The Brinkopfs operate Sunny Hill Garden Center Inc., 335 Christine.
"We attend this show every year," said Brinkopf. "We do a lot of buying there and attend seminars and training sessions on what's new in the industry."
Included in the sessions were topics concerning marketing, new products, and other topics covering all phases of the business, said Brinkopf.
Sunny Hill offers a variety of lawn, garden and pet supplies.

Jeff Codding, Wade Hamlett and Chris Mattie, employees of Gibson Recovery Center, recently became certified as Missouri substance-abuse counselors.
Hugh Stone, executive director of the center, announced the certifications.
Codding has been with the center since July 1989. He is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in social work. He and his wife, Trish, are parents of three children.
Hamlett has been with the center since 1989, and is working toward a master's degree of psychological counseling at Southeast Missouri State University. He and his wife, Mindy, are parents of three children.
Mattie joined the center in January 1989, and is working toward a degree in business and sociology. He was recently married to Emily Gianino.
