TOP FRANCHISE: J. Gregory and Donna Hutsell are named one of Colortyme's Top Ten Franchises of the Year.
The Hut Company, Inc., owned by J. Gregory and Donna Hutsell of Cape Girardeau was recently named one of Colortyme's Top Ten Franchises of the Year.
Colortyme, Inc., was formed in 1981 as an independent company devoted exclusively to the rental industry. In the last 11 years Colortyme has grown to over 400 stores nationwide.
The Hut Company, Inc. operates five Colortyme franchises in Arkansas and Missouri. The Hutsell's have been franchisees for over nine years.
They both graduated from Arkansas College and reside in Cape with their five year old son, Aaron.

The St. Louis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has named Cape resident Charles Grojean the recipient of the Hard Hat of Year award.
The Hard Hat is the highest honor a Corps Construction Division can bestow on its field personnel.
Grojean has also received the prestigious award from the Mississippi River District.
Grojean has worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 28 years and is currently Manager of the Cape LaCroix Improvement Project, a five-year, $25 million program to prevent flooding in portions of Cape Girardeau.
Grojean is married to Mary Klipfel Grojean and has three children.

Kelvin W. Birk of Earley, Janssen, Begley & Company, Cape Girardeau, recently attended a one-day seminar dealing with accounting for income taxes.
The seminar was sponsored by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
The purposes of the seminar were to understand, analyze and apply the new income tax reporting requirements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

The Life Underwriting Training Council (LUTC) and the National Association of Life Underwriters (NALU) have announced that 17 local agents have completed the Multi-Line Skills course.
The agents from Allstate Insurance are Jack Ford and Vernetta Ford. Larry Crosier represented Country Companies while Steve Brazil, Ken Cambell, Stu Garrison, Dennis Lorch, Jim Robison, Don Sanders and Rich Walker of Farmers Insurance Group also finished the course.
Mutual of Omaha's Mike Kerner completed the class as did Ruby Koenig, Tom Mueller, Allen Phillips, Rich Bradshaw and Wayne Zoellner of Prudential. Time Insurance's J.T. Hill also completed the course.

Kenneth E. Volkerding of Jackson recently completed a financial services seminar at the Lutheran Brotherhood University in Tulsa, Okla.
The intensive three-day seminar focused on new and revised products, service activities, and selling concepts, among others.
Volkerding is a district representative at the Harlan Pals Agency.
