METROPOLIS, Ill. -- W. Virgil Hargan of Metropolis, formerly of Mounds, Ill., agency manager of the Country Companies Pulaski-Alexander-Massac Agency, has been honored for 30 years service with the insurance firm. METROPOLIS, Ill. -- W. Virgil Hargan of Metropolis, formerly of Mounds, Ill., agency manager of the Country Companies Pulaski-Alexander-Massac Agency, has been honored for 30 years service with the insurance firm.

Hargan started his career with the Country Companies in 1962 as an agent in the Jackson County Agency. He was named agency manager of the Massac Agency in 1964, and became the manager of the Pulaski-Alexander-Massac Agency in 1986.

JOPLIN J. Lee Lummus, formerly of Cape Girardeau, recently passed the certified public accountant examination.

Lummus, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in accounting, is a staff accountant with the Joplin office of Baird, Kurtz and Dobson, Certified Public Accountants.

The firm operates from 20 offices in seven states, including Missouri and Illinois.

Lummus is the son of Jim and Linda Lummus of Cape Girardeau.

William R. Smirl, owner of Bill's Pharmacy, 60 Doctors' Park, recently received the Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) Pharmacist award.

The award was established by MSD, the U.S. prescription drug division of Merck & Co., to recognize professional and civic achievements of pharmacists. Smirl was honored for dispensing over one million prescriptions.

CAIRO, Ill. Martha Farmer, Dorothy Pirtle, Betty Lentz and Betty Mize, certified nursing assistants from the Cairo office of TIP of Illinois Health Services Inc., recently attended the second annual CNA Conference held at John A. Logan College in Carterville.

Also attending the conference were Edna Alsip, Beverly Trexler, and Elizabeth Eagle of the Anna TIP office. Other TIP employees from Metropolis, Carbondale, Marion, and Golconda attended the session.

TIP, a Medicare certified home health agency, serves the lower 18 Southern Illinois counties.

Laura Faye Thomas has been named Agent of the Year by Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance agency.

Thomas also received the National Sales Achievement Award and the Health Insurance Quality Award by the Life Underwriters Association.

Terry Hill and Lloyd Lynxwiler have achieved Million Dollar Club status at Jim Wilson Co.

The two route-sales representatives were recently honored for sales that topped $1 million in 1991. They received awards from company president, R.J. McKinney.

Jim Wilson, founded 45 years ago, provides automotive products that include tires, tools and other equipment to dealers throughout a five-state area.

Mitch Callis of Cape Girardeau, a Sears automotive department salesman, was recently honored at the Sears district Circle of Honor banquet held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in St. Louis' Union Station.

Callas was honored as top salesmen in the Sears Chicago region.

Also honored for superior sales performance in the automotive department of the Cape Girardeau Sears store were Lee Bush, salesman, and Fred Holzum, sales manager. All those honored received a Circle of Honor watch and lapel pin.

Gary Slaubaugh, manager and owner of Square One Electronics Inc., 1733 N. Kingshighway, and Nick Greer, a technician at the store, have attained certification in the Newbridge 3612 Mainstreet Narrow Band Multiplexer.

The 3612 Mainstreet provides businesses with a method of digital communication with remote locations using multi-, simultaneous data and, or, voice transmission over one circuit.

The training course was held at the Newbridge facility in Dallas, Texas.

Slaubaugh is also certified on the Newbridge 3624 Mainstreet Channel Bank.

Dennis Marchi, manager of the Cape Girardeau Schnucks store, has been named honorary chairman of the 1992 Easter Seals Telethon, which will air locally for 10 hours on KBSI-Fox 23 March 8.

Marchi, who has been with Schnucks 23 years and recently received the R.J. Schnucks Award for community involvement, has been involved in local projects since moving here seven years ago.

He has served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross, Community Counseling Center, Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, St. Francis Medical Center, and the United Way. He is also involved with the marketing department, public relations committee and business college advisory boards at Southeast Missouri State University.

He is a member of the university's Copper Dome Society and SEMO Athletic Boosters. He is also involved with SEMO Fun Fest, is on the advisory board of Cape Girardeau Public Library, and is chairman of the Boy Scouts Food Drive.

The telethon will be held in the KBSI studio.

Dr. Robert Kessinger, a Cape Girardeau chiropractor, served as an instructor during the Kale upper cervical specific precision X-ray class held at St. Louis recently.

This marked Kessinger's first conference to teach since becoming an instructor for the Kale Chiropractic Network of Ashville, N.C.

Kessinger practices at 1424 Kurre Lane.

Dr. Zenon M. Duda recently attended the 50th annual meeting and scientific seminar of the American College of Foot Surgeons held at Orlando, Fla.

Seminar topics included first metatarsal surgery, tumors of the foot and ankle, and laser surgery.

PERRYVILLE David R. Rudert, district representative for Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL), has been recognized for outstanding sales and service.

Rudert was first in overall insurance sales in the Jack Hollingsworth Agency of AAL, which has 32 district representatives in Missouri.

Rudert works in the Perryville, Farrar and Crosstown areas.

CARBONDALE, Ill. Charlie B. Brown and Trace B. Brown, both of Charlie B. Brown & Associates Ltd., 609 West Main, Carbondale, are now state certified general appraisers.

The two have met the Federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act requirements to do all types of real estate appraisals.
