Creative children need your help

An 8-year-old girl loves arts and crafts, board games and children's movies on DVD. Her sister has a great imagination and would like toys she can make up stories with such as My Little Pony, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake and dress-up clothes. Their single parent's wages pay for rent, car expenses and electric bills. With no other support, that leaves only $100 a month for gas, food and clothes, leaving nothing for Christmas gifts. Like the 1,200 children ages 1 to 12 being served locally by Toybox this year, you can help make a meaningful Christmas. Bring new toys to any of the Toybox locations, including the Southeast Missourian, or make a monetary donation to Toybox, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702. Here are some popular requests for other Toybox families: Board games, race cars, trucks, dolls, learning toys, puzzles, books, balls, drawing materials, and items with a Hannah Montana, Spider-Man, Dora the Explorer, Indiana Jones or High School Musical theme.

Elderly 93 year old woman still lives alone with her dog

Mrs. F doesn't get out much at age 93, but she has her dog as a companion and receives visits from a friend at the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. With household and health expenses, her fixed income leaves nothing extra for her or her dog. Mrs. F would like a duster in 1X petite, housecoat in 1X petite, night gown in 1X, four soft pillows, a cookware pot, pans, skillets, bath towels and wash cloths, underwear size 10, bras size 38C, comfortable shoes in 7 wide, a full set of sheets and comforter, small kibble dog food in small bags and dog toys. You can help Mrs. F and other needy elderly people in our area by buying these needed items, including personal grooming items, cleaning supplies and grocery gift cards. Items can be delivered to the Southeast Missourian, or make a monetary donation to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702. All elderly served are living independently on limited incomes with few, if any, family members.
